NEW Acting/Solo Performance School

Minds Interrupted - March 15

Tanya Taylor Rubinstein

I wanted to remind you that Susana Guilloume's wonderful one woman show, "Girl Facing West" is playing this coming Friday and Saturday night at the Railyard Performance Space in Santa Fe. It starts at 8:00 p.m. and tickets are $15. I had the pleasure of working with Susana over the course of a year in her development of it.

Writer, Natalie Goldberg said about Susana's show "I laughed aloud and it also broke my heart. A human life - that's what we saw on stage, how we make up our lives in the middle of disappointment and betrayal, how we go on and live."

In April, 2008 Project Life Stories will be opening a full time acting and solo performance school at the Lena Street Lofts in Santa Fe. I will be teaching solo performance, various monologue classes and trainings for facilitators. I have brought aboard several excellent teachers including Ursala Drabik who will teach Acting Basics, Scene Study and Acting for Film; Kathleen Fontaine who will teach classes in Stand-up Comedy and Creating Characters through Improvisation and Michelle Vest who will be offering classes in movement, presence and creativity for the actor. Michelle has trained at the prestigious Tamalpa Institure in the Bay Area and with Ruth Zaporah. All classes will meet once a week for 8 weeks and we will have four sessions throughout the year! The first session begins April 24 and I will be sending you a complete schedule and how to register in the next newsletter!

As we go along, we will add classes in playwriting, audition techniques, screenwriting and more. Look in the coming year for many talented and accomplished guest teachers. We will also be having special events at the studio such as monologue slams, stand up evenings and informal monologue performances. There will also be week long and weekend intensives this summer with several guest teachers and myself.

I will be doing my own one woman show "The Sex Chronicles" at the space this summer so watch out! It's going to be the first show I've written and performed in several years and I am psyched!

In my classes (for one person shows and memoir) I am always encouraging and supporting my students in "finding the container" for their show or book. The container is the structure that we can funnel all of our creativity into so that it can be presented in an artistic and clear way to an audience or reader.

I have created many containers for my own classes, the monologue shows and more. I have never been so excited as I am now, creating this space to support actors, solo performers and theater facilitators in our community!!!! The school's primary mission is to offer people the training and support to create one person shows, with writers and performers based in New Mexico and elsewhere. Our secondary mission is to offer training to writers and actors in Santa Fe's emerging film community.

What a mission - huh! I am joyfully devoting myself to the blossoming of solo shows, monologue shows, great acting and writing across the Universe-----

More to come~
Much Love,
Tanya
