The Cancer Monologue Project features 30 stories of cancer survivors from Santa Fe, New Mexico. Co-edited by Tanya Taylor Rubinstein and Camille Norwick, RN, the stories were developed in a series of workshops in which people affected by cancer were invited to write and perform their stories about living with the disease. Compassionate and honest portraits were made by Dorie Hagler.

After the biopsy he looked at me and said; “Becca, it’s real important that nothing penetrate your vagina for the next eight weeks. Ya here me? You’ve just had a delicate surgery and penetration could lead to infection. Do you understand? Penetration – bad, could lead to infection.” It’s okay, doctor, it’s not like my husband and I spend Saturday nights sticking Volkswagons and watermelons in there.
